China is updating its foreign policy goals

It's unknown how much good will be said about China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) when history is written. Cracks are starting to appear in the infrastructure network that has cost more than $1 trillion to construct across emerging market nations in order to link significant segments of the world economy to Beijing. Existing initiatives are failing, funding is running out, and recipient nations are drowning in debt. Some countries are openly rebelling against Chinese influence in their backyards as a result of this. It's time to raise some tough questions about the BRI's viability and how China might change its foreign policy initiatives in the near future given the weakening prognosis for the global economy.
