Consider this: How much of your day is spent absorbing information that you won’t use or that doesn’t resonate with you on a deeper level?

Think about the daily news reports of local crimes, the constant flow of updates on social media, gossip about celebrities, reality TV shows. The list is endless.

In this era of information excess, it’s easy for your life to become cluttered with irrelevant or unnecessary data in a flash.

The reason for that is simple: Keeping your attention for as long as possible is the key to these news outlets and tech companies.

They make a good chunk of money from advertisers. And advertisers make a lot of money when they capture a lot of eyeballs. It’s also easier to sell to people who feel helpless and fearful. The messaging of their products is a loose variation of: “Just buy X and your negative feelings will go away!”
