 The Price of Our Addiction to Disposable Technology


The Moore's Law of the number of transistors in an integrated circuit, which has yet to be broken (although they are now so small that it is getting tougher to make them any smaller), has contributed to our generation's obsession with technology. From food to computers, reading devices, and our ever evolving cell phones, we have gadgets for everything.

In 1989, my folks were hitched. A Philips Tropical refrigerator was one of the gifts they gave. My mother still has this one at home.

But I wasn't as fortunate. Even though I tried and persevered in fixing them, I had to change my fridge three times since moving alone 15 years ago. If a fridge lasts five years instead of one that lasts a decade,
