 What Keeps So Many Black Americans in Survival Mode


If you've ever lived in survival mode, you know what it's like to struggle to balance conflicting priorities, to worry about whether you'll have enough food to last until payday, whether you'll be able to pay the rent or your mortgage on time, or even whether you can afford the electricity bills. It's evident that this is a typical occurrence rather than an unusual one given that more than half of Americans, according to one statistic, live paycheck to paycheck. Nevertheless, we cannot overlook the fact that the ordinary White family has "7.8 times the wealth of the typical Black household." Therefore, compared to your White contemporaries, Black people in America are significantly more likely to be in survival mode.
