Black females! If you want to cry, you can.
I was raised with the notion that Black women should be "strong" and "independent." Although being independent as a woman is amazing, there are times when you just want to cry, scream, and shout! However, you must remain resilient for everyone else.
You serve as everyone's cook, nurse, cleaner, therapist, and everything else; nevertheless, there are moments when you need to serve only yourself.
Therefore, I'm fighting back tears as I type this because I don't want my son to see me weep; but, is suppressing our tears teaching our children anything? When we mask our anguish and anxiety by seeming like everything is "fine," but we are actually overflowing with pain?
Independent, diligent women frequently carry heavy loads
