Nature's Lesson on Diversity, Inclusion, and Equality from Queer Organisms
A friend of mine accidentally revealed during my high school years that he had homosexual tendencies, which shocked everyone in our welcoming chat group. When another acquaintance said that homosexuality wasn't natural, the once-jovial environment became quiet. I was clueless at the moment and looked for comprehension.
Our 40-year-old, kind and upbeat biology teacher encouraged us to ask any inquiry without holding back. This gave me the confidence to question if homosexuality was normal in front of the class.
I felt ashamed and humiliated after the teacher's startled silence and the reactionary censure from my classmates. It was mocked by my best friend as a stupid query.
