Officials in Georgia threaten Fani Willis

September 3, 2023, update. A recently passed Georgia law gives an eight-member commission the authority to dismiss prosecutors they don't like, which is intended to end prosecutions. The Georgian people did not vote on the measure, but the majority-Republican House and Senate passed it, and on May 5 of this year, Republican Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia signed it into law.

The act of editing. I received an email shortly after publication from Garrison Douglas, Georgia's governor's office press secretary. He graciously corrects a comment I made in the original draft of this piece, in which I misquoted Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and stated that the newly constituted committee will "take action" against District Attorney Willis.
