 My Hopes and Fears for Parenting in the Age of Technological Disruption


My youngest child, a lively 6-year-old, simply navigates her iPad by swiping and tapping. She navigates her internet world with an ease that yet seems foreign to me as she deftly moves her tiny fingers around the screen. My teen is absorbed in his virtual reality headset while tucked away in his room, with an ever-present pair of headphones around his neck.

Not so long ago, they were chasing each other through the garden while their laughter reverberated throughout the home. Today, though, they are much more likely to be observed in various rooms of our house, each preoccupied with their own activities.
