At this stage in my life, it seems like everything is pushing me to move quickly.
It's difficult to resist comparing ourselves to others when we feel like we're falling behind, our development looks slow, and our goals keep getting pushed back year after year. As we view the happy highlights of people we might not even personally know, social media tends to inspire more frequent comparisons.
The kind of comparison I make is what social comparison theory refers to as upward social comparison.
People frequently say, "Don't compare yourself to others," as if doing so is as simple as waving your hand to halt comparisons.
