Never Forget: Examining the Holocaust in the Past
I'm not sure how to express the sensation I felt when I peered down from the platform to the track system below.
While in the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, I was surrounded by artifacts that detailed the deadliest act of self-inflicted violence ever committed by humanity. Although the entire Memorial is a somber exercise in remembering and suffering, one particular piece hit close to home in a manner I wasn't expecting.
An outdated wooden railcar was in front of me. I had to go into the car and make my way through the claustrophobic, dark hold to get to the ramp that led across a hole in the floor in order to move on to the next part of the museum.
