What Set Sobibor Apart From Other Death Camps
I've been reading Daniel Finkelstein's outstanding new book, Two Roads Home: Hitler, Stalin and the Miraculous Survival of My Family (Doubleday 2023), which explores the experiences of his Jewish family while living in Nazi concentration camps and the Gulag. The word "miraculous" in his subtitle doesn't seem overstated.
I've started taking notes on Two Roads Home in one of the blue chemical notebooks I use for this reason. I prefer them since they have 40 lines per page rather than the 32 for college-ruled, and in a few days, I've filled eight pages with information from it. The Sobibor extermination camp in German-occupied Poland is one of the most prominent.
