I gave a public testimony at the hearing on the New York State Child Welfare System and the Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse and Maltreatment about 20 years after I was given back to my mother from foster care. I discussed the severe abuse my siblings and I experienced throughout our ten years in foster care, as well as how mandatory reporting caused harm to my family. The anticipation I had for the hearing after it been postponed twice before was tremendous.

I designated myself as the family's spokesperson because I wanted to free us from the burden of a past that we didn't request. I long for a society free from surveillance and traumatization of the most vulnerable families. I had
