It's likely that you have come across one of these "x times more likely" assertions in a newspaper article or headline. There are undoubtedly sources that exploit odds ratios for sensationalism and fear mongering, even while many of these statistics are well-researched and educational (here is where you're 19 times more likely to have coronavirus, for example). I'll give you a quick rundown of these statistics today, including how to calculate and interpret them as well as potential downsides. We refer to these figures as odds.
