This point of view has evolved into a guiding concept that has altered how I interpret and negotiate the curves and detours of my path.
I was the cautious one growing up. I methodically prepared, attempting to have control over every element of my life. I thought that if I took a certain path, success and happiness would come to me automatically.
But as I would soon learn, life had other ideas.
I was fired on a terrible day. It dealt my carefully thought-out scheme a fatal blow. I had the impression that life was happening to me and I had no control over it.
